The other day someone asked me why I drink so much water if all I'm consuming is liquids. With all those juices, I should be more than hydrated right? Wrong.

Drinking water during anyone fast is very important for a few reasons:

  • The body needs all the water it can get to help flush all the toxins that your body is releasing through the detox process. Don't drink enough water, and you can guarantee to have a build up of toxins sitting pretty in your colon - not good.
  • Drinking water in between juices is a great way to keep those "hungry" feelings away.
  • As a result of the detox some people may experience diarrhea, which causes dehydration - so it's important to put liquids back into the body.

Here are some of the ways I stay hydrated during the day:

  • Drinking plain water can at times be boring and even tedious, so I try to mix it up by drinking herbal caffeine-free tea (caffeine is a diuretic and will dehydrate the body.)
  • I also drink coconut water which is a great source of electrolytes and is super yum! (Do remember to have it moderate amounts especially if you're having a lot of fruit juices because it does have a lot of carbs.)
  • Today I experimented with some homemade vitamin water which I called Pink Lemonade (strawberry & lemon juices with alkalized water.) I have to play around with it a bit to make it less sour, but this is a great way to drink more liquid!(I'll post the recipe once I figure out the strawberies-to-lemon ratio)

I hope this is helpful to my friends who are doing juice fasts right now!

  1. very helpful! I decreased the amount of water because of my bathroom trips ... but now i will do the same amount just like when i was not juicing.
    thanks so much Lorena!

    1. Ode, I totally get why you decreased your water intake - going to the washroom every half an hour does take some getting used to. I make myself feel better by thinking of how many toxins I'm getting rid of every time I go. It helps!
